El Ranchito de Mayagual
Our favorite beachside restaurant. Order the whole fried fish or the camarones in the creamy jalapeño sauce (not spicy but super delicious!) and ask for chilero on the side.
Kiss Me Artisanal Ice Creams
A new ice cream shop in town serving up delicious flavors like Tres Leches, Guava Cheesecake, Rum Raisin, Espresso & Brownie, and Salted Caramel Cream.
Doña Mati
A shop in town that makes fresh smoothie and juices. They also sell freshly baked bread treats (like soft sweet breads and cakes and cookies)
Asados Juanita
Traditional Nicaraguan platter in town with a meat main, cabbage salad, plantain chips, and rice & beans. We love the grilled chicken platter! Takeaway or no-frills sit-in restaurant.
Indio Del Sur
A pleasant coffee shop that plays jazz throughout the day
Nica Organica/ Peace & Cake
A store offering fresh, organic products from the Finca las Nubes organic farm– fruit, eggs, honey, vegetables, coffee and Moringa products. They also have a bakery on site and offer an assortment of coffee, smoothies, fresh breads, salads, omelettes, and other cafe-food offerings. Since they have strong WiFi and great light, this is a great place to take calls and do work. Right in front of the Finca Las Nubes Clinic on the main road into San Juan del Sur.
Mercado Municipal
Small local market in the center of town with souvenirs, prepared food stands, and fresh fruit vendors. Go during lunch time and eat from one of the local stalls.
Toastadería
Delicious bakery right on the water in town pumping out fresh bread and other locally-baked treats. They also have a cafe with a full breakfast and lunch menu and sell a small variety of locally-made wellness products in their bakery extension next door.

If you’re feeling tension from your travels, schedule some time with Vanessa onsite at Apogeo Guest House. You can choose between a relaxing rub down or a deep tissue massage and experience it either outside on the pool deck, in your room (Ocean and Mountain Suites only), or on the back patio. Ding Repair Cafe
A surf cafe serving up smoothies and açaí bowls, avocado toasts, lunch bowls, and sandwiches. They have Wi-Fi, great light, and plenty of seating, so it’s a nice place to do laptop work.
Cervecería
A craft beer bar with locally-brewed beers on tap. They also offer beers with local-ingredient infusions, such as passionfruit!
Market Machete
A cute cafe and variety store on your way to/from Maderas beach. They also have a fun and delicious pizza night (with some GF options and cocktails) every Friday evening.
La Fuente de Chocolate
Shop with locally-made chocolates, with vegan chocolate options. Coffee and ice cream served also.
Gastro Garden
A cute garden space that offers a variety of food options like thai food, wood fired pizza, vegan food, sushi, and wings. There is also a full bar and a pool table.
Sabores de mi Patio
Great local restaurant with a beautiful garden. Delicious beef soup on Sundays. Make sure to reach out to them via Instagram to reserve because it goes fast!
The Bus Station
An outdoor bar set up in a converted bus, right on the water by the pier in town. There are a variety of food options set up here as well to explore.
Art Warehouse
American-owned cafe and coffee shop with an art gallery + space for art workshops in the rear. They also have WiFi and are a good place to do work while eating breakfast or lunch. They also have a variety of community events that happen, so check out their Facebook page for more info.

A big bar and club on the pier. Check out their schedule to see if there are any fun parties or events while you’re visiting!
